It was shaped like a huge lop-sided donut and, at first glance it appeared to be made of some kind of stone. But, further investigation led Mr. Spock to see that it was actually a very sophisticated machine-one that was still operational and was designed to function as a window of sorts through which they could look back in time and actually watch history unfold.
