David A man After God's own Heart

1 Samuel 24:1-22 RESPONDING PROPERLY TO YOUR ENEMIES Intro :   Our studies have followed David from the sheepfolds of Judea to the battle fields of Israel.   We have watched a boy mature into a man.   We have watched David kill a giant, win the hearts of a nation, and we have seen him develop into a man of God.   We have watched David as he climbed to the pinnacle of success and we have seen him fall into the depths of despair.   We have seen him receive the love of many and the hatred of a few.   It has been a blessing and a challenge to look into the life of David thus far.       Today, we find the sweet singer of Israel living in a cave.   He is there because God has been systematically removing every single support from underneath David’s life.   God has been teaching David the difficult lesson that only God is worthy to be leaned upon.   While David is in that cave, he is presented with an opportunity that many m...

DAVID: SOME THING SPECIAL ABOUT THIS PLACE

Image
Psalm 84:1-4, 10 THERE’S SOMETHING SPECIAL ABOUT THIS PLACE Intro : This is a Psalm of the Tabernacle. It is thought that this Psalm was written by King David while he was an exile from Jerusalem during the rebellion of his son Absalom. If that is the case, it reveals much about the heart of David. He was a man who loved the House of the Lord! To David, there was no place on this earth so special as that one place where the Lord had chosen to place His Name and demonstrate His presence. For David, the Tabernacle was the place he desired to be.      Now, I know that the true House of God is Heaven and that His true Tabernacle now is the heart of the believer. However, the visible symbol of both these things is the church. When the saints of God gather themselves together to worship the Lord in Spirit and truth, there is nothing on this earth that is any closer to Heaven than that! This place in which we gather is a place dedicated to the worship and...

David's Cave experience

1 Samuel 22:1-4 CLIMBING OUT OF YOUR CAVE Intro : Turn to  Psalm 61:1-2  and listen to what David said in those verses.    Do you ever feel overwhelmed by life?    We all do from time to time!    This text finds David is one of those times.    He is in a dark, damp, dreary, depressing cave.    He has experienced the loss every thing and every one he leaned on in his life.    He is alone, defeated and discouraged.    David is in one of the cave experiences of life.        What David did not see at the time, but soon came to understand, was the fact that God was behind it all and in control of it all.    David did not know it at the time but God was going to use his time in the cave to help David grow stronger in the Lord.   The day would soon come when David would emerge from that cave far stronger in the Lord than he was when he entered that time in his life. ...

sermon 6 on David: Learning to Lean

1 Samuel 21:10-15 LEARNING TO LEAN Introduction :  This passage is a strange one to me.  Here we see the Sweet Singer of Israel; the giant killer; the man who would be king of Israel; acting like a mad man.  Here is a man who has thrown all of his self-respect to the wind.  Here is a man who appears to have hit rock bottom in his life.  What brought David to this point in his life?       I think this is an answer with finding.  Why? The answer is this: every person under the sound of my voice is going to be affected by this message. You see, every one of us leans on someone or something to help us get through this life.  We all have a well developed support system in place.  We depend on the people and the things in our lives to help us make it through day by day.  In fact, we are guilty of leaning on our support system more heavily and more often that we lean upon the Lord.     ...
