Am I My Brother's Keeper?

Am I My Brother's keeper? Date: July 29, 2012 Scripture Reference: Genesis 4:1-9 from The Series: Great Questions of the Bible for 2012 INTRODUCTION to the Series I have been told-by my parents and various relatives-that when I was a child, almost from the moment I began to talk-I began to ask questions. Apparently I asked my mom and dad about pretty much everything that I laid my eyes on-to the extent that it got on their nerves and they would say, “Enough Lenin-take a break! No more questions for a while! Okay?” And of course I wasn’t a unique child in this because all kids go through that stage when they just LOVE to ask questions. If you’re a parent you know what I’m talking about. In this questioning stage our kid’s non-stop inquires can indeed be kind of tiring as they ask, “Why this?” and “Why that?” and “What is this?” and “What is that?” and “Where are we going?” and “When will we get there?” and so on and so on. Well, parents should be p...

THE GOD WHO SAVES Date: July 22, 2012 Scripture:  Psalm 107:1-8 from the series  Psalms for 2012   Scripture Let us read together  Psalm 107:1-8 1  O give thanks unto the  Lord , for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. 2  Let the redeemed of the  Lord  say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy; 3  And gathered them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south. 4  They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in. 5  Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them. 6  Then they cried unto the  Lord  in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses. 7  And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation. 8  Oh that men would praise the  Lord  for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! This  is the w...

WHAT EVERYONE SHOULD BRING TO CHURCH Date: July 15, 2012 Scripture:  Psalm 100:1-5 from the series  Psalms for 2012   Introduction   People bring all kinds of things to church. Some bring snack, candy and toys (Especially loud toys!) to entertain the kids. (A trip to the woodshed would have a more permanent impact!) I have even seen people read books while the sermon is being preached! Some think this is the time and place to balance their checkbook. Others bring their nail clippers and trim their fingernails. (We have even found toenail clippings on the floor!) Some things should be left at the house! Of course, in a positive sense, many bring their Bibles, (Hold them up!). There are some things everyone should bring to church. Scripture: Let us rise to our feet and read together   Psalm 100:1-5 1  Make a joyful noise unto the  Lord , all ye lands. 2  Serve the  Lord  with gladness: come before his presence ...

WHERE YOU STAND DETERMINES   WHAT YOU SEE! Date: July 8, 2012 Scripture:  Psalm 73:1-28 from the series  Psalms for 2012   Introduction One day, six blind men decided to go to the zoo. They hired a guide to tell them about all the exotic animals they couldn't see. When they came to the elephants, the zoo keeper wanted them to have more than a verbal description, so he allowed them each to feel the elephant. Since the elephant was large, and since the zoo keeper had limited time, he let each man touch one part of the giant mammal. The first blind man reached out and his hand grabbed the elephant's tail. "Aha," he exclaimed, " the elephant is like a big rope ." The next man felt a massive elephant leg. He looked strange, no rope was that big. " No, the elephant is like a large log or tree. " He was sure of this. The third blind man walked forward and ran straight into the elephant's side, whereupon h...
