SOME TRUE REASONS FOR THE SEASON Date: October 30, 2011 Scripture: Luke 2:8-20 from the series Having A Right Christmas Introduction Let's face it, the Christmas season is a time that is loved by many and hated by just as many. Yet, regardless of which side of that issue you fall on, this much is true: the Christmas season is a time filled with many mixed messages and with pagan and worldly rituals. I mean, this is supposed to be the one time in the year when the world remembers the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ, and every year we muddy the waters of truth by allowing the Scriptural meaning of the season to be mingled with other messages that have their origin in the world. Now. I enjoy Christmas as much as the next person, but I just want you to be aware that there are some terrible misconceptions surrounding the true meaning of the season. The Pouting Prophet    Date: October 23, 2011 Scripture: Jonah 4:1-11 from the series Jonah Introduction If you have a young child, you've probably read the popular children's book called Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day by Judith Viorst. It's about a little boy whose day starts out bad and goes downhill from there. He gets gum in his hair and gets his sweater wet in the sink and he trips over his skateboard and doesn't get a prize in his cereal box  and that's all before breakfast! He could tell right away that it was going to be a TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE, NO GOOD, VERY BAD DAY. Then he goes to school and his teacher doesn't like his drawing of an invisible castle, he doesn't get a dessert in his lunch bag and his best friend doesn't want to be his best friend anymore. And after school his mom buys him plain white sneakers instead of the ones with red and blue...

The Preaching Prophet Date: October 16, 2011 Scripture: Jonah 3:1-10 from the series Jonah Introduction 1 - Then the word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time: 2 - Go to the great city of Nineveh and proclaim to it the message I give you. 3 - Jonah obeyed the word of the Lord and went to Nineveh. Now Nineveh was a very important city-a visit required three days. 4 - On the first day, Jonah started into the city. He proclaimed: Forty more days and Nineveh will be overturned. 5 - The Ninevites believed God.
